Pros and Cons to Working at Home
Are you planning to leave your corporate career life so that you can work full-time at the comforts of your home? If so, then you better consider the following pros and cons to working at home first before starting anew in your work life.
Working at home means getting your independence back in terms of your job. You can work at your own space and rhythm without having to worry about pleasing your boss and getting a promotion or a salary increase. You are your own boss and you can march to the beat of your own drum. But by being independent, you would have to fend for yourself. You would need to attend to usual business matters such as marketing, accounting, conceptualizing, tax payments and so forth all by yourself. You can only share the workload with others once you have expanded your business and have decided to hire helpers.
Having the luxury of working through flexible hours is also the benefit of working at home. You do not need to force yourself to get up in the morning and toil through the usual 9 to 5 hours of working. You control your own working routine and schedule. However, since you are on your own, you would have to be committed to your work around the clock. You need to keep track of how your business is doing and you cannot afford to slack off for hours.
Another great thing about making money at home is that you don’t have to adhere to a certain dress policy since you can work at your own privacy. You can also just rest in the couch for a while or watch a bit of TV while still being inside the parameters of your workplace. But since no one is watching over your work behavior, you might get tempted by certain distractions like playing online games, updating your Facebook profile, or chatting with someone around your house. Laziness can sometimes set in. You may find it boring as well when you don’t have any colleagues or office mates to talk to.
Now that you know the pros and cons to working at home, you can make a sound decision whether or not making money at home fits your idea of the perfect professional life.
