Set Your Goals and Succeed

Children often dream of becoming a lot of things such as becoming a doctor, singer, fireman, astronaut, actor, chef and the like. They tend to be very idealistic and naive. Childhood ambitions are more likely to shift back and forth, side to side since children only have this vague idea of a particular adult identity or profession. Without real exposure or proper experience to any of their dreams, they cannot know for sure what it is truly like. Dreams are definitely grander and less complicated than reality.

As people grow older, they realize that simply dreaming about one’s goals and ambitions in life is pointless. They need to strive hard for it to turn it into reality. They have to put away their childish notions of life and start working on it with blood, sweat and tears. Pursuing goals and dreams is never easy; nonetheless, it is the most rewarding experience people can give themselves once they finally reach the top.

What you need to begin doing is to prepare a detailed plan of action so that your goals can come to life. Your goal has to be borne out of a genuine interest and not from the idea of someone else. For example, you should not strive to become a doctor just because you want to please your father’s wishes. It could turn into a depressing and frustrating road for you if you don’t really want it. In the end, you are the one who has to live with your choices. You need to have a sense of passion in order to steer yourself in the right path.

After having a vision of what you want to do, write it on paper and list down all the steps you need to do. You have to be very clear with your objectives. For example, saying that you plan on opening a spa business after 5 years or so is not enough to set you on the right track and to make that goal happen. You need to break it down to a number of specific objectives to accomplish that goal. You should also make time as an essential element in carrying out your plan promptly.

In planning out your goals, you need to be realistic. You should not make too low or too high of a standard for yourself. It should just be high enough to motivate you and to thrust you towards success.

Next, you have to be in action. Execute the plan and get ready for small failures that might try to threaten you. Embrace failures or mistakes as valuable lessons and continue to pursue the goal.

Lastly, stay motivated at all times. Enjoy what you are doing and avoid people or things that only bring you down. Be positive even during tough times and you would surely find the feeling of success seeping through your veins even as you are still in the process of fulfilling and dreams.

“In the absence of clearly defined goals, we become strangely loyal to performing daily acts of trivia.”  ~ Anonymous
